Juan Ramirez dreamed of becoming an announcer on ESPN’s SportCenter. When he played out the odds of winning that seat however, he realized that there was intense competition for too few positions. Juan then remembered that an aptitude test he took in high school suggested he would be good in the health care profession, given his love of science and his patience with people. This fueled Juan’s decision to attend nursing school at The JFK Muhlenberg Harold B. and Dorothy A. Snyder School of Nursing. Not long after graduating in 2012, Juan was snatched up by JFK Hospital in Edison New Jersey as a full-time permanent nurse.
Nursing is a great career because it doesn’t require a bachelor’s degree in most states and the starting salaries are high. The work is challenging, but there will always be a demand—people get sick, even during times of high unemployment. Now that Juan has full-time employment, he is back in school finishing up his bachelor’s degree. Once he finishes, he will be fully qualified for any management opportunities that open up down the road!
