I’ve seen a lot of people talk about personal branding, which I feel plays a very important role in job searching. I’m not 100% clear on what personal branding entails. I know it’s important to present yourself as knowledgeable, responsible and hardworking, and there are ways to go about that. My question is, how do you go above and beyond in creating a seamless personal brand? Besides your skills and knowledge, what can you do to take your personal brand to the next level?October 8, 2013 at 1:24 pm #29635
Yes, I was wondering this as well. Does this mean you have to make a decision to focus only on one career field, even if you have experience and interest in two sectors, like editorial and marketing? This would help career focus but I’m worried that would decrease job search options if transferrable skills are viable.October 8, 2013 at 1:33 pm #29639
If you are without a job and searching, I would recommend that you dual path your efforts–one for editorial work and another for marketing. This is a tough job market and too narrow a focus can harm your prospects. This will require different resumes, etc. to tailor your package to the opportunity. If you have a job and experience in both, then you might want to look for an opportunity in a smaller company, a startup perhaps, where you would be encouraged and rewarded for wearing multiple hats.October 8, 2013 at 3:12 pm #29642
Thanks, AnnMarie! I was really worried about this, so your confirmation was what I needed.
